Aragvadha literally means to kill diseases.In Ayurveda it is also referred to as Rajavriksha, the king of trees. The pods are used to treat malaria, anthrax,blood poisoning, diabetes, and dysentery. The leaves and the bark are used to cure various skin conditions, broken bones and tropical ulcers. Aragvadha have been used for centuries for the treatment of skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema. The pulp around the seeds is rich in calcium. It is also the national tree of Thailand. Aragvadha leaves, pulp, pod,root and bark are used in various Ayurvedic formulations to treat variety of disorders likeconstipation, fever, skin diseases and digestive troubles. Ripe pods and seeds are also used as a mild laxative in children.The root, bark, leaves, and fruit pulp have laxative properties as well but to a lesser extent.

Various parts of the tree are used for treating heart diseases, tumours in the stomach, the glands, liver and the throat. It has been long believed that the tree can cure delirium, convulsions and gravel in the organs.

Researchesprove that parts of the tree possessesessential antioxidant properties, are antibacterial, antiviral and cholesterol lowering. Aragvadha is believed to have pain relieving properties and is also useful in treating fevers and to reduce blood pressure. However it should not be taken in large doses as they causes vomiting, nausea and stomach cramps
